Irene Village Mall – Public Art, Sculptures
Thursday, 1st November 2007

Imagine hundreds of trees, fountains and old Transvaal architecture. A place where you can be yourself, treat yourself and enjoy luxury. Irene Village Mall opened on 24 October and offered shoppers more than just a congenial shopping atmosphere.

A place where kids can play in a ground level fountain, designed in such a way that their parents can enjoy a magnificent cup of coffee, at the surrounding restaurants without the worry of injury or harm. Its been said that water brings along harmony? Irene Village Mall believe that it brings along an inspiration of the better things in life.

Angus Taylor a world-renowned sculptor created public art as a permanent feature to the Mall. Angus Taylor has received various awards over the years, and his work can be seen worldwide.

Angus has created three different sculptures for Irene Village Mall. The first, displaying two life size figures sitting down and playing a strategic game.

The second, one of its kind sculpture is a cow lying on its back, with it’s udder as the main feature. Irene Village Mall appropriately named this sculpture “The Udder Side”. This unique sculpture is made of solid concrete with Bronze finishes and is situated in the piazza area.

Lastly, Trixie the cow is still in the making at the Mall. Trixie, will be filled with indigenous plants to indicate the spots of the cow as well as other different features synonymous with a cow. Trixie is fitted with her own personal irrigation system to keep her from dehydration during our wonderful summers.

Irene Village Mall is proud of its offering and stand to be unique.

Complimenting the rich historic and cultural heritage of Irene, Irene Village Mall will offer its shoppers’ easy access through four entrances and 1,800 parking bays. An added classic feature, synonymous to the previous existence of Town Halls, is the Clock Tower. Its chime will reverberate throughout the Mall at 09h00, 12h00 and 21h00 daily.

Irene Village Mall will captivate your imagination. This brand new shopping haven offers its patrons an inviting blend of fashionable shopping and delicious restaurants, ensuring a fulfilling and superior shopping experience.

Trees, canopies, street signs and public art all build character and a sense of place that aim to become no less than the very town centre of the Irene node.
